10 May Cup of Comfort: Purple Edition
It can be hard to get comfortable when you’re involved with a large organization like NAMI, especially as a person of color. That’s why we want to invite you out for a cup of coffee and a tour of the Prince exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture!
Join other people of color involved with NAMI throughout King County for a day of community building and socializing. We want you to feel welcome and comfortable! This is meant to be an opportunity to see Prince at Minneapolis at no charge, courtesy of our friends at MoPOP, and also a safe space to discuss your experiences with volunteering/being involved with a mental health organization as a person of color.
Please note: The only staff and Board members who will be there are people of color ourselves. This event is specifically dedicated to recognizing NAMI’s volunteers who are people of color. If you are not a person of color, you will be politely asked to leave. To read more about the value of POC-only spaces, please read: https://arrow-journal.org/why-people-of-color-need-spaces-without-white-people . If you have questions about this article, please feel free to let us know. You can send your questions or concerns to email@example.com.
It’s more important than ever for us to have a safe space where we can speak openly as people of color who are impacted by mental health issues. We can’t wait to see you and hear you. Our space is limited so email firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP so we can hold your spot!
